Mobile photography is radically changing the photographic landscape. A truly remarkable range of iPhoneography has emerged from around the globe in just the last 2 years. Having a camera always in your pocket plus the inexpensive, organic discovery process of working with apps, along with the instantaneous sharing of visual ideas via social networks like Instagram is exponentially evolving the medium. A large underground of amazing artists are inventing new ways of image creation. In addition an explosion of apps, equipment, books and output options have added to the fire.

Our objective with this day long session is to unveil and celebrate all aspects of this rapidly growing art form based around Apples iPhone. We will be featuring more than a dozen of the most notable names in the movement. You will learn why iPhoneography is different from traditional photography in three unique ways: Organically Shooting, Processing and Sharing. How to get unique perspectives and story telling with Street photography, how to combining apps to create artistic images beyond what has ever been possible and how to share smarter and get noticed in Instagram.

We will also explore the gadgets and services that are emerging around iPhoneography. Hear from the top bloggers, authors and educators in the space to get the complete perspective of what is happening now and what the possibilities are in the future.

The Fine Art of iPhoneography

10:30am – 12:00noon
Karen Divine and Cindy Patrick

In this information-packed 90-minute session, a world of possibility will be opened to you as two award-winning fine artists demonstrate how they use the iPhone and apps to create artistic images beyond your imagination. From Cindy Patrick’s expressionistic photo paintings to Karen Divine’s fantastical collages, you will learn how to unleash your creativity and use the iPhone as a tool for self expression. Each artist will demonstrate how she uses the iPhone, iPad, and a myriad of apps to create their art, which has been displayed in galleries and museums around the globe. You will learn the secrets of fusing, blending, and stacking apps to create amazing works of art in the palm of your hand!

Karen Divine was introduced to photography in the early 70′s and went on to study painting, drawing and alternative photographic processes. After learning Photoshop in 2001 she began creating the images she imagined using just photos and in the past two years transferred that process to the iPhone. While learning to create a beautiful single image is crucial to being a fine art photographer, the multi-image is what speaks to her heart. She tells her stories by compositing seemingly random images and watching them evolve. She has won numerous International Awards including Discovery of the Year with the International Photography Awards in NYC 2011, First Place in Florida Museum of Photographic Arts, Eyephonegraphy #3 in Madrid on Tour through Spain 2013, WPGA Pollux Award First Place, exhibitions in Atlanta, NYC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boulder, CO, Texas Photographic Print Program, and the Center for Fine Art Photography just to name a few. Her most recent awards include First Place Cell Phone WPGA, 2012 IPA First Place Award, 2012 Prix de la Photographie Fist Place as well as interviews with CNN. Karen teaches creative iPhone classes and will teach at the Santa Fe Workshops in March 2013.

iPhone Blogs and social photo networks shaping the iPhoneography story

5:15pm – 6:30pm
Marty Yawnick

Marty Yawnick lifeinlofi.com/ will chart the history of the movement from Pre-iPhoneography to iPhoneography pre-App Store and current day trends. Along the way he will discuss how the blogs have effected the direction of iPhoneography, covering the formation and early days of iPhoneography.com and Life In LoFi, as well as some of the early, pioneering iPhoneography blogs. He will discuss how today’s social photo networks like Instagram and EYEEM are shaping the expectations for iPhoneography today. Marty will also share what’s in their camera bag — apps and gear he likes and use.

Marty Yawnick “I have a camera. Sometimes, I use it to make phone calls.”
Marty Yawnick is a freelance graphic designer and he owns Type A Design, a small graphic design studio based in Dallas/Fort Worth. He holds a degree from College of the Canyons, where he majored in Fine Arts — theatre, art, music and film. Marty also writes and publishes Life In LoFi, one of the world’s leading iPhone photography blogs.

In addition to travel, baseball, and various genres of music, his interests also include art and photography and is a respected iPhoneographer as well. His works have been featured locally and globally, including “Pixels at an Exhibition: The Giorgi Gallery Show”, the first EYE’EM Berlin exhibit, and the first “Pixels at Apple” shows.

“I grew up around photography. When I was a kid, my dad and I would process Kodak Plus-X Pan that we’d shot in the bathroom after dark. Later in school, photography was something I took throughout junior high and high school.

“I’ve been shooting with an iPhone since I got my 2G in June of 2008. I loved the digital lo-fi qualities of the camera — the color qualities and the noise the 2G added to an image. I love how the iPhone’s camera is practically invisible. You can get the camera places that you cant do with other cameras without effecting the subject or the scene. Most recently, I’ve been shooting with an iPhone 5, but I still shoot occasionally with the 2G.”
