“Breaks”, “scratching”, “train wreck”, “bleeding”… yikes, sounds painful! Not to a DJ. Not if you have a Mac. At The Mac DJ session, you will get a glimpse at the brave new world of DJ-ing with your Mac. You’ll see some of the latest hardware and software available for creating re-mixes, live DJ-ing, and even “VJ-ing”. With the help of your Mac, DJ-ing was never easier. So leave those crates of vinyl at home. It’s a brave new world out there… join the revolution!

MS13: The Mac for the Guitarist

A presentation of available hardware and software for the guitarist. This session will include demonstrations of recording and performance alternatives. Time will be reserved for questions and answers. Topics include: Some hardware and software alternatives for recording guitar, how the guitar can be used as a MIDI controller, how the the guitar’s MIDI and audio signals are recorded, and more!

MS15: PERFORMANCE
Sal Soghoian, Guitarist
Join guitarist Sal Soghoian for an exploration of American standards from the era of George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, and Cole Porter. Sal’s solo guitar style can be best described as “pianistic,” where the melody is supported simultaneously by harmony and bass, plucked on a Godin MIDI guitar synced to Apple’s MainStage software. It’s a perfect marriage of the old, the new, and the Macintosh, all conveyed in an invigorating afternoon set. Stop by, take your shoes off, and set a while. See you there!

MS16: Building Your Project Studio

Each year, this seems to be the Macworld Music Studio’s most popular session. And that’s because with this one session, we put all the pieces together for you. Building Your Project Studio takes you step by step through the process of building your own project studio. We’ll talk about equipment – what you’ll need, what it does, and how to hook it up. And we’ll also show you some of the latest software that’s out there that you can use to make music on your Mac. Come and see what the buzz is about!

MS17: Creating & Adding Drum Beats and Grooves with Your Mac

Let’s face it, music stinks without drums! Okay, not all music but you may want to give your music something to dance to. This session provides an overview of different methods for adding drum parts to your music. You’ll learn how to add drum loops, how to create your own drum tracks using midi, and about options for adding live acoustic or electronic drum tracks to your recordings.

Well now you can practice, perform, and create music – anytime, anywhere, on your iOS mobile device. Join the MacWorld Music Studio as we show you some of the coolest mobile music apps around. You may not want to ever download another game again!

MS20: Guitarists You CAN Take It with You!

We all know that the Mac is a great music tool for guitar players and there are a number of great plug-in and stand-alone software options for recording and playing live. Learn how to use these different applications to create and modify backing tracks to use in practice and performance. See and hear apps that create modeled guitar tones and set lists. Included in this session will be selected software and hardware available for guitar on iOS devices.
